According to developer namesupressed, the Softener application is ideal for wedding and portrait photography. Softener makes portrait photography a bit more interesting by taking the image and applying a soft focus filter. You will get a softened image that looks great.

The Softener installation file for 32-bit systems is only 4.2MB in size. When you run said file, a setup wizard shows up and guides you through the installation process. It must be noted that Softener can be installed as a standalone application and as a plug-in for Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Irfanview, and Fireworks.

There’s nothing complicated about Softener’s interface. The main pane presents the photo you loaded, while at the top there are buttons for all the bits the application can do. Even a novice will have no problems getting accustomed to this interface.

There are several things you can do to a photo once you load it into the softener application: you can resize it, you can rotate it, and you can apply the Softener filter. By default, the Soft Focus effect is applied to your image when you choose Softener 2 from the Filters menu. There are other effects at your disposal, apart from the Soft Focus one, mainly: Normal Blur, Alpha Blur, Sketched, Glow, Moody, Misty, Vibrant Color, and Over Exposed. For each you can play with the Softness and Strength values. After you select an effect, it is applied to your photo and you are presented with a preview.

Softener is free to try. You can use the application for free for an evaluation period of 21 days. A watermark will be placed on the output by the trial version.

Soften up and enhance the way wedding and portrait photography looks with the incredibly easy to use Softener application.

Pros

Softener is available for 32 and 64-bit systems. Use it as a standalone application, or let it integrate with other photo editing tools such as Photoshop. Easily apply a soft focus effect to your photos.

Cons

The trial version, which can be used free of charge for 21 days, puts a watermark on the output.
